Childhood obesity rates are arguably still on the rise, despite more than a decade of awareness campaigns and other efforts, with the United States widely recognised as having the highest prevalence of childhood obesity. On any given day, children can get up to 40% of their calories from fast foods and sugary beverages! Currently, there is no cure for obesity, which causes multiple chronic diseases later in life. The only sure way to prevent obesity is to instill healthy eating habits at a young age.
In addition, women have overtaken men in obese categories according to new government research. The multiple chronic diseases that result from obesity cost one-fourth of the national health care cost to treat.
There is no doubt that the daily stress from shortage of time and resources faced by working women with children are some contributing factors toward the increasing obesity rate among women.
Children’s Kitchen is not only designed to address childhood obesity, in order to prevent chronic diseases resulting from obesity later in life, but to help relieve some of the stresses of modern-day, working mothers (as well as fathers and other caregivers!).
